Vancouver Island Neighbourhood EV Capital of Canada

Vancouver Island Neighbourhood EV Capital of Canada
The Issue
Canada lags in promoting Personal EV adoption. The decommissioned 289 km Vancouver Island Railway Corridor, stretching from Victoria to Courtney and extending to Port Alberni, offers a unique opportunity to position Canada as a global leader in developing cutting-edge EV infrastructure.
We propose converting this old rail line into a Neighbourhood EV Super Highway, reserved for low-speed, licensed Neighbourhood Zero Emission Vehicles (per BC Transportation Act Bylaw 24.06), micro-mobility, cyclists, and pedestrians, with a limiting speed of 40 km/hr.
With 80% of Vancouver Island's population living within 5 km of this under utilized corridor, this highway concept will provide a brand new sustainable, highly affordable transportation option well into the future. Our proposal has the capability of uniting 14 First Nations, 5 Regional Districts, federal, provincial, and municipal leaders under a Nation Building Project of global significance. It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, create construction jobs, foster innovative urban planning, boost public EV education and attract tourists from around the world.
