Hello! We are a small group of students from Romeoville High School. Our school has recently started off the second semester with seven periods a day. That's about seven hours straight for full time remote and hybrid students. The amount of hours online is bad for everyone and frankly, we feel that the well being of students and staff wasnt taken into account the decision. With us are also middle and elementary students, who, at this age in development are very influenced in their health from their screens. This is taking a big toll on our mental along with physical health and not many other students are putting in the work that we did last semester where we had days with half of our schedule one day and the other the next. Not to mention the hours online even after school for homework! Along with us students, I am also aware some of our teachers agree with us too as they have to work and grade online more than usual. Mental illness during covid has skyrocketed and we should want to prevent this for students as well. This is draining and we have no more energy. The valley view school district could make this change for the remainder of the school year (and in the future if necessary) but we need them to hear our voice in order for this to happen.
