Transportation Justice in Santa Clara!

Transportation Justice in Santa Clara!
The Issue
Transportation is the number one source of carbon pollution in the Bay Area, but public transportation and other sustainable forms of transportation are frustratingly inadequate for many of us to use as a regular mode of travel.
Luckily, the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is considering placing a 30 year half-cent sales tax measure on the November 2016 ballot that could raise $6 billion to make it easier for us to get around in a convenient and sustainable way!
But what’s actually in the measure will be decided by the VTA Board of Directors between April and June of this year, including the degree of funding for programs and projects that can either move us in the right direction or dig us into a deeper hole.
Will the measure consider the needs of our generation? Thus far, young people have had little voice in the process, but this is our future.
Please sign the following petition to the VTA Board of Directors to ensure the following programs and projects are adequately funded as part of the planned 2016 transportation half cent sales tax measure:
- Increase the affordability and accessibility of transportation services for youth; low income people, seniors, and people with disabilities;
- Provide more affordable housing options near transit hubs;
- Create safer streets for walking and biking; and
- Improve bus service in terms of frequency, speed, reliability and safety.
