The Issue

46% of the Vallejo City budget pays for police.  Vallejo City Council has given so much money to the police department, that it has failed to deal with lack of jobs, health problems, violence, education, housing problems, and problems of homelessness that are the REAL threats to our safety and our security. On top of that, the police department is refusing to terminate officers with repeated occurrences of misuse of force. Many have died unnecessarily. And even though many people in our community have lost their jobs and homes because of COVID-19 and the city is facing possible bankruptcy, city council is seriously considering increasing salaries for city executives and police.  We deserve a city council that cares more about citizens.

We demand that Vallejo City Council reject the proposal to increase city spending for policing and executive salaries. We are demanding that the Vallejo police department prove to citizens that it can deal with its internal problems before receiving more funding.

The council will reconvene on July 28 to vote on this.  We have less than 30 days to take a stand! Sign this petition to STOP Vallejo City Council, shift public funds from policing to new services like job development, mental health counselors, who can respond to people who are in crisis without using firearms; to education, to housing, to recreation, more jobs and etc.
