In response to Covid-19 outbreak, Val Verde Unified School District has decided to cancel this year’s traditional graduation ceremonies and instead possibly host virtual ceremonies. While we understand the health risk and the unknown that the virus may bring, we are absolutely dismayed to learn that Val Verde Unified School District is not attempting to reschedule the traditional celebrations to a later date. Our seniors will not have the opportunity to walk across the stage and be handed the diploma that they have earned. Other high schools and universities have postponed to a later date. Why can’t Val Verde Unified School District do the same? The community stood behind the district when they recently asked  to help pass Measure C, which in turn passed. All we ask is that they stand behind Class of 2020, now more than ever. 

Graduating from high school is a once in a lifetime experience that commemorates not only the hard work of students, but also the sacrifices of their families.

Please sign this petition so that Val Verde Unified School District and surrounding districts will consider postponing the traditional graduation ceremonies for our seniors. Class of 2020 deserve to walk across the stage for their accomplishments and success throughout their schooling. Virtual graduation will NOT be the same. Postponing graduation will allow seniors to eventually experience the ceremony they deserve.
