Hold canine Officer accountable for abusing his canine partner during a training excercise
The Issue
On December 28th, a Vacaville police officer was caught on camera straddling and intensely punching his K-9 partner in the face 10 or more times. The person capturing the video was drawn to the seen after hearing a dog howling and crying out in pain.
Despite this horribly abusive behavior it has been condoned as an appropriate canine training method by Vacaville police Capt. Matt Lydon. This is truly an unacceptable and irresponsible response by Captain Lyndon! K-9 training programs and canine organizations NEVER teach nor do they condone physical abuse as a training method. Therefore we demand:
That the abusing officer be investigated and charged with animal abuse.
That the abusing officer be discharged from any and all work with K-9 officers and never be allowed to partner with a K-9.
That this K-9 be reassigned to another officer and cannot be allowed to remain with the abusing officer.
That this K-9 be re-evaluated as to his/her ability to serve as a K-9 officer. The K-9 may better suited to another canine services.
