The people of Vacaville and surrounding areas are incredibly fortunate to be in such close proximity to a beautiful public area. Lagoon Valley offers hiking paths, duck ponds, a place to hold barbecues, family get togethers, community events and so much more. It is an accessible place people from all walks of life can enjoy. Even though it's just outside of town it offers a bit of an escape.  The city of Vacaville has approved plans for thousands of 'executive' houses with a town center (strip mall), and a golf course when the golf course in Vacaville just closed due to lack of interest. Not to mention we've all been asked to conserve water only to have it wasted on a golf course during the drought. This will all be in plain sight from the pond and hiking trails that once made you feel like you were escaping the city for a little while.  According to the Lagoon Valley Conservancy "The Developer’s attempt in the proposed Phasing and Development Agreement to circumvent the law by requesting an illegal twelve (12) year extension to an already expired tentative map is a grave disservice to the public interest. Further, the addendum to the 2004 Final Environmental Impact Report for the Lower Lagoon Valley Policy Plan Implementation Project relies solely on obsolete data. The 2004 EIR was reliant on the 1990 development plan (a plan acknowledged in the addendum to be expired). " (https://www.facebook.com/notes/lagoon-valley-conservancy/letter-to-the-city-council/813732192065121 They've approved the plans against the wishes of the people of Vacaville many times. This has not been put to a vote by the people of Vacaville, only through City Council.    "“It isn’t necessary to develop Lagoon Valley and there are legal ways to get around it." -Dave Fleming, former Vacaville mayor.

Here is a list of reasons to oppose this development:

  • Lagoon Valley is beautiful and the view should be left alone.
  • This development has been voiced as disrespectful and culturally insensitive as it is in plain view of a Native American burial site.
  •   The environmental impact report is from 2004, 12 years ago.
  •  Vacaville doesn't have many recreation areas available to families of all income levels, and certainly none so enriching as Lagoon Valley.
  • The children living in that area would be zoned to go to school in Vacaville for middle school, but to Fairfield-Suisun for High School.
  • Golf courses and high income housing both use above average amounts of water during this drought, while others were asked to conserve water.
  • There's also already another golf course nearby even though one in Vacaville just shut down for lack of membership.
  • Negative impact on wildlife
  • Negative impact on traffic, which City Council has not addressed.
  • Negative impact on Lagoon Valley
  • Fire/police coverage on this 'annex' of our city, how would it work? how would it affect us?
  • City Council has continued to approve this despite the opposition and won't put it to a vote.
