Residents of Utah have long been aware of religious involvement in state government. Although not fully due to religion, Utah is one of many states who chooses to ignore expert studies and opinions for teaching other options to abstinence in schools. Recent studies have shown that over 95% of all Americans do not wait until marriage to have sexual intercourse. Teaching students proper use and effectiveness of sexual protective devices to prevent STIs should be a goal we all share in the modern world. It is time for Utah to look to the future- placing theological views and absurd ideas ahead of the safety of our children and society must stop.
