Crossing Lights for Crosswalks
Crossing Lights for Crosswalks
Over the last several years we have seen many children hit in crosswalks when it is getting dark outside, due to low visibility and lack of lights at crosswalks. It is my belief that if there is a crosswalk on a road that has a speed limit over 25 mph, that there should be crossing lights on the side to alert drivers that there are pedestrians that need to cross.
In 2015 a young 14 year old girl was hit and killed in Taylorsville on Halloween night, due to low visibility in the crosswalk. That resulted in crossing lights being placed on that crosswalk and 2 others, but it is not enough. Just a few blocks south this last Saturday as teens celebrated Halloween 3 more teens were hit. 1 is in the hospital, and the other passed on 11/1, and one other child was not taken to the hospital.
This is a pattern of 4 children being hit, with 2 passing! This is too many! With Utah's growth over the last few years, it is my belief that any crosswalk that falls on a road with the speed over 25 mph needs to have the side flashing lights and not just locally in my community but state wide! Please sign this petition to save more lives and let the Utah Legislature know that enough is enough!
