Join the Utah #insulin4all Chapter in calling for action in Utah for transparency on insulin. Add your name and city of residence in Utah to this petition by asking the Utah legislators to raise legislation that requires transparency for insulin pricing starting with the list prices set by insulin manufacturers Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Sanofi.

Many people with type 1 diabetes are being forced to ration their insulin and increasing the number of people who have died because they could not afford it. Without their essential insulin, people with diabetes die quickly and painfully.

● The price of some decades-old insulin has increased over 1200% since 1996.

● The cost for one vial of insulin is currently around $300.

● Even with insurance, people are paying an average of $1400 per month out-of-pocket for insulin alone and up to 50% of their annual income on diabetes costs.

● Between 2001 and 2015 the price of Humalog insulin increased by 585%.

● One vial of insulin can be manufactured for as little as $3.00.

● 1 in 4 people with type 1 diabetes are forced to ration their insulin due to its ever climbing price.

In June of 2017, Nevada became the first state to pass a bipartisan insulin price transparency bill, SB539, which requires insulin manufactures to report costs and profits and to notify the state before planned price increase.

Other states have followed with similar bipartisan price transparency legislation.

While being dependent on insulin for survival is a life long challenge, paying for insulin should not be. Insulin is just as vital as oxygen. Every human needs insulin to survive. The lives of Utahns who must inject insulin daily to survive are being held hostage by increasing prices.

It is time for Utah to follow the lead of other states that have passed bipartisan legislation to require transparency in prescription drug pricing.

Help us continue to live long and healthy lives with affordable insulin as we start to unravel the mystery of insulin prices with data from price transparency legislation!
