Stop the Use of Gas Chamber Euthanasia in Utah

The Issue

Currently, the state of Utah allows animals to be put down using the method of gas chamber euthanasia. This is the process by which animals are put into a chamber that slowly fills up with carbon monoxide. This process takes up to 30 minutes and some animals even survive and suffer from this experience. During the process, animals put into the chambers experience symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and oftentimes suffer before succumbing to the carbon monoxide, all animals are then put into a freezer to ensure death after coming out of the chamber. This method is ban in all but three other states and should not exist. The cost of euthanasia by injection is similar in cost if not cheaper than using a gas chamber. All animals should be able to pass on when necessary in a humane way.

There are 8 estimated or known animal shelters that still use gas chambers in the following counties:

Carbon County

Draper

South Jordan

Utah County

Weber County

West Valley / Taylorsville

Summit County

A bill detailing the ban of the chambers was introduced earlier in 2021 and has been shut down. The Utah State House refused to let this bill pass for four years. Please add your name to the list to help stop animals from suffering at the hands of monsters who prefer to watch animals slowly suffocate. The more pressure and presence that is added the more aware people will become of this ongoing monstrosity inside Utah animal shelters. No animal regardless of its background and circumstances should be put through this torture to "lighten the burden" on Utah animal shelters.
