Deforestation is a problem

Deforestation is a problem
The Issue
We are a couple of boys from Salt Lake City, and have a school project to impact Utah. We found that deforestation has devastating results, and wanted to stop it before it becomes too big of a problem. There is quite a problem near the Grand Staircase Escalante Monument. The federal government plans to remove an unprecedented number of trees here, it says to reduce fire risk, improve habitat for greater sage grouse, and increase forage for cattle and a world-renowned trophy-hunting deer herd. We plan to target the state senator, and other places that can impact Utah a lot. Grand Staircase was set aside in 1996 in part for scientists to study “perhaps the richest floristic region in the Intermountain West,” according to the presidential proclamation that created it. The little-known BLM tree-removal proposal is part of an effort by the agency to cut tens of thousands of acres of pinyon-juniper woodland across the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin, and into the Pacific Northwest. Removing more forest portends far-reaching consequences for the ecological diversity of America’s public lands. Through this petition, we attempt to not only make an impact on Utah, we attempt to make this problem unheard of for the next generation. If you want to help fix this problem and make an impact, please sign this petition.
