Asking USTA to rescind recommendation to close tennis courts

Asking USTA to rescind recommendation to close tennis courts
The Issue
Tennis is one of the few sports that allow for social distancing and Individual touch ball usage, both of which are key to containing the spread of Covid 19.
At a time when many people are willingly restricting so many aspects of their daily lives, getting outdoors in a safe and appropriately socially distant way is critical to individuals’ physical and mental health - especially in the days and weeks ahead.
The USTA’s statement recommending closing tennis courts due to Covid 19 prevents thousands of individuals from getting outside and staying active in a socially responsible manner and prevents countless tennis facilities willing to meet / exceed the reasonable health and safety standards from providing access to courts.
Runners can still run for their physical and mental well being. Walkers are still encouraged to walk.
Similarly, we ask the USTA to rescind this blanket statement and allow tennis players to play tennis - responsibly.
