Stop the banning of “vicious” breeds.

The Issue

My puppy is being kicked off base housing for “LOOKING” like a pit bull. His mother is a boxer and father is a border collie and we met both of them. Because his mother might have pit in her our puppy is being forced to get DNA tested. We have to pay out of pocket for the costs of the test AND have the test results back within the next 5 days in order to keep him with us. We called every vet in our town and the earliest we can get the test results back even with an at home test is 2 weeks. Animal Control on base won’t even allow us that much time to keep him while we wait for the results. My husband is a Marine. We don’t have family within 100 miles of us and most of our friends live on base and can’t foster him until our lease ends allowing us to move somewhere we can keep our puppy. Our only options at this point are to have a stranger foster him, which could potentially be dangerous for him or cause problems with us getting him back, or get rid of him altogether. We don’t have the money to put him in a soggy hotel or boarding. We don’t have the money to move yet so it’s not even an option. And I know lots of other families have had to give up their fur babies or find someone to foster or move out for the exact same reason. This policy needs to change worldwide. It’s ignorant that in other countries people even think to put down a dog if it’s a certain breed. America is the worlds most influential country and if we make that change it’s very possible other countries might too. I am starting this petition to allow all dog breeds on USMC Camp Lejeune. Hopefully we can create enough of a voice to change policies on other military bases and eventually all. And hopefully with that “small” change, it will change the policies of many Homeowners Associations as well and banned breeds will no longer exist!
