However, there is also concern that there could be stress-related trauma to the ducks during the relocation process. So it's clear that more discussion needs to happen, but we are thrilled to know that euthanizing will no longer be a part of it thanks to you. Most importantly, if you want to continue helping these ducks, the best thing you can do is to stop feeding them when you visit Ocracoke. Actually, we shouldn't be feeding any wild animals at all. This is the reason the ducks congregate there. If they know there's an easy food source with the people, they have no reason to leave. We humans are doing harm with our good intentions. Let's thank the village of Ocracoke with accepting responsibility for the things we can help. We hope to see Ocracoke follow through with a possible ordinance against feeding them. In the meantime, please do the right thing and choose not to feed any wildlife. The permit is good through next March, so we will keep close watch on the developments until then.
