Use CARDBOARD Straws for Montclair School Meals

Use CARDBOARD Straws for Montclair School Meals
The Issue
I am a resident of Montclair, NJ, and it pains me to see plastic straws from our local schools being discarded carelessly. These straws end up in landfills, contributing to the growing problem of plastic pollution. The United States alone generates around 33 million tons of plastic each year, much of which ends up in our oceans and landfills (Environmental Protection Agency).
Our schools should be leading by example when it comes to environmental responsibility. By replacing plastic straws with cardboard ones in school meals, we can significantly reduce our contribution to this global issue.
Cardboard straws are not only biodegradable but also cost-effective. They break down naturally without causing harm to wildlife or the environment (National Geographic). This simple switch could make a significant difference.
It's time for us as a community to take action against single-use plastics starting with our schools. Let's urge the Montclair School District to replace plastic straws with cardboard ones for all school meals.
Please sign this petition and help us make a change that will benefit not only our town but also contribute positively towards global efforts against pollution.
Smalls steps can become big if we all chip in.
