USDA-NIFA, U.S. Dept. of Edu: Adopt an IMMEDIATE Ban of 4-H & FFA Youth Show Ring Beta Agonist Cattle Doping/Cheating!
USDA-NIFA, U.S. Dept. of Edu: Adopt an IMMEDIATE Ban of 4-H & FFA Youth Show Ring Beta Agonist Cattle Doping/Cheating!
The Issue
It's wrong, period! We view as cheating, the feeding of cattle additives called beta agonists - in the competitive Youth Show Ring. Beef Additive Alert, a USA Consumer Awareness Campaign based in cattle country Nebraska, is appalled that the two of the finest Youth Development Programs in America - the USDA-NIFA & U.S. Dept. Education-FFA (Future Farmers of America) do NOT presently have a policy on the books that ban aggressive performance-enhancing beta agonist cattle drugs in Youth show ring competitions. These FDA-approved muscle-bulking feed additives are presently under intense industry scrutiny for animal welfare concerns. Plus, beta agonist feed additives Zilpaterol & Ractopamine are banned or restricted in many countries, including, China, Russia and the 27-member European Union.
We are also alarmed that kids/teens are 'a' target market of these aggressive cattle drugs billed as the “Competitive Advantage You Can’t Win Without” and “Essential Show Feeds”.
We strongly believe that no industry should encourage kids to cheat in the show ring which teaches poor values - in youth programs that are supposed to build good character & reward positive decision-making!
Share your voice. Demand an IMMEDIATE anti-doping, anti-cheating beta agonist policy in all USA youth development programs.
