USDA: End Harmful Dairy Subsidies

The Issue

Dairy cows are one of the most inefficient food production systems on the planet. In order to keep making money from them, the dairy industry has been milking America for over 100 years now – in the form of taxpayer-funded subsidies, government price supports, and externalized costs. In return, this industry has been polluting our water resources, jeopardizing our soils, undermining our country's food security, deterring business innovation, harming healthcare, and putting millions of animals through unimaginable misery.

And it turns out that dairy is completely unnecessary nutritionally. No American adult believes they still need their own mother's breast milk, yet the dairy industry has been exploiting government agencies to prod us into believing we need the breast milk of another species' mother. And that's complete bull. Nobody needs their own mother's breast milk after infancy, and no person needs a cow mother's milk ever. We don't need the cholesterol, the estrogen, the casomorphin, or anything that cow milk's got.

Dairy briefly played a helpful role in humanity's past, and even in our country's history, but those days are long gone. Dairy is now doing us far more harm than good.

And our leaders should not be protecting a product that's harming us, nor favoring producers of harmful products over producers of potentially improved ones. If any dairy producer is going to keep receiving financial assistance from our taxes or government today, that assistance should only be for transitioning to something that's better for us.

Continuing to subsidize dairy is like subsidizing old gas cars as a strategy to prevent new, more efficient vehicles from succeeding in the free market. These subsidies are unfair to taxpayers, unfair to innovative producers, and unfair to the health of Americans and America's food system.

This petition is asking the USDA, DOGE, HHS, U.S. President and Congress to lead our country out of the dark age of dairy. Taking that lead is as simple as saving taxpayers money by ending the financial subsidies and government supports that have been incentivizing an overgrown dairy industry to keep producing what America doesn't need. Put another way, please stop wasting our tax dollars on saving an outdated, inefficient, unnecessary, unhealthy, and inhumane industry that's now harming us all.

We ask all others to please sign this petition today, and to stop getting milked forever.

And after signing, please share.

Thank moo!
