Factory farms are like hell on earth. From free-ranged farms with lots of access to the outdoors, factory farmers have trapped animals in unsanitary and crowded conditions. These animals are fed antibiotics to keep them growing at rates so fast, their bones cannot support them. This antibiotic soup is directly linked with 18% of all bacterial antibiotic resistance in farm-produced animals. As an example, the female pigs are artificially impregnated every 3 months and kept in cages so small they can't turn around. Sure, you might give your dog or cat a lot of love, but what makes them different? What allows chickens and pigs to be bred to suffer? What allows them to be hurt, abused, and unloved? What makes them different from any other pet you might have? What allows these inhumane farms to continue to operate, even when they are the biggest contributors to global warming? There have been many attempts to stop this hell on earth, but combined, the farming and pharmaceutical industries have more power than the government. The reason these businesses are growing is that we want meat and animal products cheaper, and we have achieved that, but at the expense of animal welfare.
