Hi Everyone, We have 12 signatures (and counting) on the bipartisan letter to the Trump Administration in support of Muhammad and his family's case! And thank to you everyone who has contacted their Representative and asked them to join the letter! The letter got several new signatures yesterday and today. We now have signatures from Jeff Denham (R-CA10), Jamie Raskin (D-MY8), Derek Kilmer (D-WA6), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA7), Duncan Hunter (R-CA50), Seth Moulton (D-MA6), Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon (R-Puerto Rico), John Garamendi (D-CA3), Tim Ryan (D-OH13), Jim McGovern (D-MA2), Suzan DelBene (D-WA1), and Luis Gutierrez (D-IL4). Several other offices including several Republicans have given positive feedback and will likely sign soon. The letter also addresses the general issue of US military interpreters being denied refugee status on weak “discretionary” reasons, so this letter will also help other interpreters in a similar situation to Muhammad and his family. Please continue to call your Representative at their Washington, D.C. office today and tomorrow and remind them that the deadline to join the bipartisan sign-on letter for the Kamran family is tomorrow (Wednesday 7/25). We know that several of the signatures so far are because of the efforts of petition signers to contact their Representatives, so your work is paying off! An invitation to join the letter was emailed to all House offices last week, so your Representative has already been invited to join the letter. Use this link to look up your Congressman/woman if you need contact information for them. https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative Please email me at save.aysha@gmail.com (rather than commenting on this update) if you have any questions or need any more information. Congressman Denham's office said that getting media attention for the letter will be key to getting results, and they will work with us to help get media attention for Muhammad's case starting next week when the letter will be publicly available and released to the media. And we have confirmation from The Ithaca Voice that they will publish a follow up story next week. We also have gotten some interest from CNN in the past so will follow up with them. If you have any media contacts, please let me know so we can share the sign-on letter with them as soon as it is publicly available. We're happy to work with local and regional media, too. Especially if your Representative signed then your local media may be interested in the story. Thank you, Kristy Perano email: save.aysha@gmail.com
