WHAT is EAD ?

EAD (Employment Authorization Document) is authorization granted by USCIS for eligible immigrants to work legally in the US.

WHAT is this petition for?

This petition requests the USCIS to grant the 180 day automatic extension for EAD petitions for the category c26 (H4 spouses of certain H1B applicants). The 180 day automatic extension for EAD is presently available for other categories but not for H4 dependents (spouse of a H1B immigrant).

WHY is this important?

The principal beneficiaries of H4 EAD are women. The H4 EAD has empowered many women over the past few years. The delay with the introduction of biometrics for H4 renewal is adding an increased delay in H4 EAD renewals which means losing a job. The uncertainty with the wait and finding a new job is highly stressful.

In the present economic situation and uncertainty caused with the Coronavirus situation, granting this automatic 180 day extension for H4 EAD will be a huge relief and benefit both financially and psychologically for many families.
