Many people are rightly jailed for robbery, rape, murder or selling drugs.

If however the accusation is false and made maliciously the effect on the accused can be severe, especially when the crime is viewed as heinous such as is the case of rape or sexual assault.
The perpetrator of a false rape or sexual assault claim normally faces no legal consequences even though such accusations inflict incredible damage.
This gives false accusers carte-blanche to abuse the system and terrorize the accused with impunity.
This petition asks that a willfully deceptive false accusation of rape, proven beyond reasonable doubt, should be a prosecutable offense in line with any other perjury or indeed rape itself to the same extent and severity, and that the Department of Justice acknowledges and addresses this imbalance.

This petition is to call upon the Legislature to formulate a law that would prohibit and punish the deliberate false accusation of rape or sexual assault where it can be shown to have been knowingly falsely reported out of malice.

Such a law should not affect reports that are merely lacking in evidence or where the prosecution fails to prove its case.
Many false accusation criminals will thrive and lives will continue to be destroyed if nothing is done.
