US Gymnast Chellsie Memmel was very quickly and abruptly denied the chance to compete at the 2012 US Visa National Championships. Many people do not agree with this decision and for many reasons. I wanted to start this petition towards USA Gymnastics to give those who feel upset by this the opportunity to voice their disapproval, the reasons why and to petition to have her compete at Nationals. I think USA Gymnastics needs to hear them.Tell USA Gymnastics why you think they were wrong or why Chellsie's petition should have been approved or how it could have been handled differently, etc.
I'm going to keep this open for one week or so, then print out the entire list of signatures and what you had to say, and then mail the entire thing to USA Gymnastics's Steve Penny. It may not change anything but it is a chance to show USAG how we feel about it. I think it's important that they hear us.
***UPDATE***. 6/8/12: The time has come for this petition to close. Thank you to all of you who signed the petition! I had no idea it would get so many signatures when I created it!
I wish Chellsie the best of luck in the future and look forward to seeing her working as a brevet judge, if that is what she does indeed end up doing. Who better than a World Champion and Olympian to be a judge!
***Update*** I have printed out the list of signatures and all of your comments as of May 31, 2012 around 1am CST. You all have done an amazing job! To print the seven copies I'm sending to USAG and others, it took over 700 pages of printer paper!! They will be sent this morning, overnight mail by FEDEX, to reach their destinations on Friday June 1st.
I've enclosed the link to this petition in each one, SO PLEASE KEEP SIGNING THE PETITION, the more we get the better. Thank you so much for taking the time to sign and to spread the word, I'm sure Chellsie appreciates it very much!
One of the seven copies is being sent to M&M Gymnastics in Wisconsin, so Chellsie can see all the wonderful things you all had to say :)
