Tell the USA Fencing Board of Directors: Keep President a Member-Elected Position

The Issue

Three days from now on August 31, 2021, the USA Fencing Board of Directors will vote on sweeping changes to our bylaws to overhaul our current Governance structure. Among the most controversial proposals is an initiative to shift the Office of President from a member-elected one to a board appointed one selected from the current pool of At-Large Directors.

Membership does not want this change. We believe that as a niche, community oriented sport, a member-elected President provides us with a voice of advocacy that positively complements the support that our elected At-Large Directors provide.

The Board intends to vote on these bylaw changes inclusively, rather than by line item votes. With this drastic change to the role of President, membership cannot and will not support these changes.

We call on the Board to exclude this proposal from the rest of the bylaw package and keep the role of President a member-elected one.
