Justice for Abdul Rahman and the NMRG

The Issue

A unit of Afghan counter-IED specialists, the National Mine Reduction Group, quite literally cleared the way for the Army Green Berets they partnered with. Their technical expertise and familiarity with Taliban tactics was indispensable as they detected and disabled IEDs (usually by hand) in advance of US forces. From 2015-2021, 47 NMRG members were killed in action, compared to only 24 Green Berets. In effect, they exchanged their lives for ours. Many American soldiers and Green Berets -including the founders of the 1208 Foundation- are alive today because of the NMRG.

Abdul Rahman Waziri was a former NMRG member who spent five years clearing IEDs for Special Forces night raids, only to be killed in Houston over a parking dispute. He was unarmed, and despite video evidence and eye witness accounts, Houston District Attorney Sean Teare has refused to file charges against the shooter or release any details.

This is unacceptable: Abdul Rahman's service rivaled or surpassed that of any American soldier, and you can guarantee that a the murder of a US veteran would be treated with much more respect and transparency. Use this tool to demand that the city of Houston conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the shooting

Like Abdul Rahman, the NMRG volunteered to do the most dangerous job in Afghanistan to further the interests of a nation they've never known. And did so purely on faith: Faith that we would be there for them when times got hard.

We must ensure that their faith in us, as Americans, was not misplaced and fulfill our moral obligation by providing the NMRG refuge in the United States.

Sign to insist that the US Government fulfills America's promise and provide safe haven to our Afghan Allies

With or without the US Government's support, we are doing everything we can to provide aid; check out our efforts at 1208foundation.org or donate to Our Fundraiser or GoFundMe. We take no salaries in this endeavor.
