We are very concerned about the current US position on the South Korea-Japan relationship issue. The war crimes committed by Japan during its colonial rule over Korea are numerous, including the slaughter of civilians, forced labor, and sexual slavery. Unlike Germany, another country guilty of war crimes, Japan has not apologized, reflected on their actions, or compensated its victims, but has distorted and hidden the history.

The Korean government's current plan to solve the ‘forced mobilization’ issue without the consent of the victims is unacceptable. It is a shameful act that ignores the demands of Koreans and victims who have long demanded apologies, reflection, and compensation from Japan. 

The United States is a country that upholds peace, justice, and universal values for humanity. Therefore, we were very shocked that the US issued a statement welcoming the Korean government's shameful ‘forced mobilization solution.’ Many people believe that the US government ignored the historical background between Japan and Korea and pressured the Korean government to improve its relationship with Japan in order to contain China. 

We support improving relationships and maintaining peaceful relationships with neighboring countries to move towards the future. However, Japan must reflect on its actions and apologize for the war crimes they have committed. Therefore, we urge the US government to withdraw support for the Yoon Seok-yeol government's shameful and anti-democratic approach that ignores the rights and demands of citizens and victims in the South Korea-Japan relationship solution. 

우리는 현재 한국-일본 관계 문제 관련 미국의 입장에 대해 깊은 우려를 표명합니다. 일본이 저지른 전쟁 범죄는 헤아리기 힘들 정도입니다. 그들은 일제 강점기 당시 한국인에게 민간인 학살, 강제 노역, 강제 성노예 등 끔찍한 범죄를 저질렀습니다. 그리고, 또 다른 전범국인 독일과는 달리 일본은 그들이 저지른 전쟁 범죄 행위에 대해 한국과 피해 당사자들에게 사과나 반성, 그리고 처참했던 피해 당사자들에 대한 배상은커녕 역사를 왜곡하고 은폐하는 것도 서슴지 않고 있습니다.

피해자들의 동의 없는 이번 대한민국 정부의 전쟁 범죄 가해자 일본에 대한 굴욕적인 강제 동원 굴욕 해법 강행을 우리는 인정할 수 없습니다. 이는 오랜 시간 일본의 사과와 반성, 배상을 요구해 온 한국민이나 피해자들을 능멸하는 치욕적인 행위입니다.

미국은 평화, 정의 그리고 인류의 보편적 가치를 지향하는 나라라고 알고 있습니다. 그런데, 한국 정부의 이번 ‘강제 동원 해법’에 대해 환영한다는 성명을 낸 것에 대해 우리는 큰 충격을 받았습니다. 이런 미국의 입장 발표를 두고 많은 사람들이 미국이 중국 견제를 이유로 한일 간 역사적 배경을 무시하고 한국 정부에 일본과의 관계 개선을 압박했다고 생각하고 있습니다. 

우리는 미래로 나아가기 위해 주변 이웃 나라와의 관계 개선과 평화적 관계를 유지하고 발전하는 것에 적극 지지합니다. 하지만, 전쟁을 일으키고 범죄를 저지른 것에 대해 일본은 반성과 사과부터 해야 합니다. 따라서, 시민과 피해자들의 인권과 요구를 무시한 채 반민주적인 방식으로 졸속히 진행하려 하는 윤석열 정부의 한일관계 해법에 대한 지지를 철회할 것을 미국 정부에 강력히 요구합니다.
