Open St. Lucie and Martin County Beaches and Parks

Open St. Lucie and Martin County Beaches and Parks
The Issue
Dear Representative Mast and our County Commissioners,
Closing the beaches and parks does not solve the problem of corona virus transmission.
The same people that recklessly gathered in large groups are probably meeting elsewhere because they have not been educated on the need for social distancing, masks and sanitizing. They simply do not realize the effect they could have on their loved ones by bringing the virus home. Many people are still going to Walmart, Home Depot, Publix, etc. without wearing masks. Many shop owners, cashiers, and food preparers are still serving the public without wearing masks. Fifty percent of people that have the virus show no symptoms, yet can still be contagious. Temporarily mandating masks in public place would go a long way toward stopping the virus. Fining and requiring online education for social distancing offenders should be mandated. Impose heavier fines for repeat offenders. Here is one educational site that is very persuasive as far as wearing masks:
Volusia and Brevard Counties have their beaches closed, but open for exercise related activities, such as walking, jogging, biking, fishing, surfing and swimming. Sunbathing, sitting in chairs, organized sports, lying on blankets and grouping of people remain prohibited. Regular patrols enforce this. Swim at own risk- no lifeguards.
Many of us chose to live in this area precisely because of the many beaches and parks. We need the fresh air, exercise and recreation. We are asking for Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, with respect for others and their safety, of course. Please open our beaches and parks for this!
Thank you for your help.
