Pre-trial Detention of Derrick Mathew Keller, US Citizen and Navy Veteran

Derrick Mathew Keller is a US Citizen and Navy Veteran currently being held in Thailand under pre-trial detention. Despite providing the Thai government with requested documents to verify his innocence, the Thai government refuses to dismiss his case. The US government's response to his family's appeals for assistance are consistently that they "cannot interfere in the Thai legal process." His circumstances have motivated his family and friends to bring attention to the US government's lack of response towards the issues of pre-trial detention in countries such as Thailand.

This petition does not dispute the particulars of Derrick's case, but Derrick has no criminal record in the United States or abroad and there is no evidence that he knowingly or intentionally participated in the charges against him. Derrick is an upstanding member of his community serving on the volunteer fire department and owning and operating his own business for over 15 years. He served in the US military as a US Navy Seabee stationed in Japan and Honduras. He and his wife, Tanya, have been married for 24 years and have a daughter, Beverly, and son, Mark. Derrick and Tanya were travelling on holiday to Phuket when Derrick was unexpectedly arrested and detained upon arrival in Thailand.

Only Texas Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn or President Trump can help Derrick now. Derrick's family and friends pray that this petition receives a  favorable recommendation and ultimately is signed.  Derrick proudly served his country and he deserves the assistance of the US government in his time of need.
