Abolish the Discrimination against LGBTQ couples in adopting children

Abolish the Discrimination against LGBTQ couples in adopting children
The Issue
In 2016, President Barack Obama passed a discrimination regulation protecting the LGBTQ+ community. This included allowing same-sex couples to adopt kids through any adoption agency. However, the Trump Administration is looking to tear that apart. With this new policy, any religion-based foster home or adoption agency (8,000 across the country) are able to freely discriminate. It basically allows them to put their religion above the children that need homes. According to a study at UCLA, same sex couples are 21.3% more likely to adopt children, in contrast to 3% of opposite sex couples(NYTimes). Out of the 100,000+ children up for adoption, that is a lot. All children deserve a chance at a forever home, and that shouldn’t be taken away from them just because they have two moms, or two dads. As a woman part of the LGBTQ+ community, I am appalled that we are somehow still in the 20th century. It is 2020 and we deserve to be treated equal. My sexual preference doesn’t define me, or my ability to raise a child with love and care. Please help the community and these children by signing!
