Push Congress to Overturn Rule that prevents Felons from Getting SBA loans

The Issue

What NO one is talking about?

The fact that government programs exclude convicted felons from accessing government lending it doesn’t matter if they’ve turned their lives around or if they running a successful business. If they committed a crime ( big or small), it doesn’t matter.  If they got a felony conviction they are excluded. No one takes into account the fact that they may have been unfairly prosecuted or even if they committed the crime as a young teenager who grew up in a bad situation. It won’t matter. They are barred forever. Imagine how many black business owners were barred from the Payroll Protection Program?

I can tell you that only 12 percent of those black business owners that did apply got what they asked for but imagine how many more couldn’t even apply?

The Rule that prevents felons from accessing SBA loans disproportionately impacts black and brown communities. Particularly black business owners who are tax paying citizens and have rehabilitated their lives. This rule should be overturned or be lifted if felon is able to maintain a clean record for 5 years.
