Nurses around the world are being abused and bullied everyday. Physically assaulted by patients. Threatened by healthcare administrators. Terminated everytime they speak up against injustice. Nurses are taught to advocate for patients, yet everytime they do, they are silenced and retaliated against. Most have no protection or recourse. Nursing unions are rare. As a result, nurses are leaving the profession in droves. There is already a nursing shortage and will soon reach critical levels. No one will be left to care for you or your loved ones.  

Nurses must be protected from any and all retaliation. We are the whistleblowers of the healthcare system and should be afforded whistleblower protection at all cost. Hold facilities and administrators accountable for retaliation against nurses who speak out. Enact a federal law making it a felony to assualt a healthcare worker, without exception. 

As a nurse, I have been hit, kicked, spat on, and sexually assaulted by patients. When I've spoken out against hospital corruption and patient safety, I've been reprimanded, harassed and terminated. Healthcare administrators get away with it because they know they can. This happens everyday, in every medical facility, in every state. No one protects nurses. Without nurses safely advocating for patients, patients will suffer in silence.
