Anthony Rodriguez started this petition to US Department of Education

My name is Anthony Rodriguez and I’m a freshman at The Cushman High School.

At the beginning of my freshman year I created a short film titled “Swiped Thin” and won the 2019 YoungArts Foundation National Merit Award. This film focuses on the existing rise of credit card debt in America and the financial struggle our society continues to face. I interviewed people with diverse backgrounds and levels of experience, and they all agreed on one thing. “We can’t spend more than we make and we all have to learn how to budget ourselves.”

My concern is that it’s easier said than done, and in fact, our youth is not getting the financial education it needs in order to be financially responsible by the time credit cards are available to them.

My goal and my call to action is to spread awareness about the risks of credit card debt. I encourage you to visit my short film on youtube and share it amongst your peers and friends. But most importantly I want to push our US Department of Education to implement Financial Literacy courses in Middle and High School Curriculums.
