End The Killing of Shelter Animal In America By 2030

The Issue

Why you should you support No Kill Petition.

Hi, I am Steven Monahan author of the No Kill Petition. I was a fortune 100 executive. A few years back I survived a terminal illness. That four year trial totally changed my beliefs, perspective on life and revealed quite clearly to me our purpose for being here. With that shift I left the corporate life to start a death row dog rescue and community pet food pantry. Today I am an animal welfare leader, author of four books on dog rescue, and the founder of Green Pets America Charities, and creator of No Kill Petition org.

At No Kill Petition we firmly believe that until man stops killing homeless animals and destroying our environment will humanity ever find peace on this beautiful planet. As stated by Humanitarian and animal advocate Albert Schweitzer said, “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer just as humans do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.”

So exactly what is compassion? Compassion is the ability for sentient beings, animal and humans, to see each other’s connected plight, and to emotionally suffer together with each other. Compassion is the physical and emotional feeling that arises within us when we are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering.

Compassion is not the same as empathy, though the concepts are related. While empathy refers to our ability to take the perspective of, and feel the emotions of another person, compassion is when those feelings and thoughts include the desire to help, intervene and change the course of events for that being.

Neuroscience has shown us that when we feel compassion, our heart rate slows down, we secrete the bonding hormone oxytocin, and regions of the brain linked to empathy, caregiving, and feelings of pleasure light up: resulting in our desire to approach and care for one another.

When we live at the highest emotional and intellectual level that humanity is able to achieve in this stage of our evolution we feel compassion for one another, and for all life. We see that this planet, us, and the animals are really one. Individual as we may seem to be, we are really one.

Being one, we therefore harm ourselves when we harm or kill our innocent homeless animals. Therefore, true humanity and compassion does not allow us to impose harm, injure or kill our shelter animals. And knowing compassion, and that it is the only way to peace for mankind, it is your and my duty to make the entire world recognize it. For until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.

Every year we kill three million healthy, beautiful cats and dogs in our government run, taxpayer financed animal shelters. There are better ways, and there are shelters today that save and adopt 98% of their shelter animals. Not until we pass a national law however will we finally bring an end to the genocide and unnecessary killing of three million animals. Only when the killing stops will America become an enlightened nation and find the peace we desperately seek. Your signing the No Kill Petition is how you carry out your duty as an enlightened and compassionate being to save our homeless animals and bring lasting peace to this Planet.
