Tell the US Government to Stop Killing Cormorants on the Columbia River
The Issue
The US Army Corp of Engineers has contracted with Wildlife Services, the "notorious" and secretive government agency, to slaughter nearly 11,000 double-crested cormorants and destroy more than 26,000 double-crested cormorant nests on East Sand Island on the mouth of the Columbia River on the border of Washington and Oregon. The killing has already started.
The cormorants are being scapegoated and killed for doing what comes natural, eating salmon. However the reality is that the vast majority of salmon are being killed by human activities including hydroelectric dams on the Columbia River, overfishing, and clearcut logging that pollutes the river.
In two weeks we will send this petition to every US Senator and ask them to take action and stop the US Army Corp of Engineers killing the cormorants and focus on the real cause of the salmon population decline.
