As the plight of our 101 members, including 22 children and vulnerable members, continues and they remain unlawfully detained for 84 days now at the Edirne deportation center in Turkey, Member of Parliament and UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief Fiona Bruce has successfully received the case.

In an official response dated the 12th of August 2023, Mrs. Bruce informs she has received the dossier on the persecution of the believers in the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light which she assured she will read carefully, plus the latest updates on the case of the 101 members of the faith currently detained in Turkey. 

Meanwhile, we continue to receive distressing reports of medical neglect and the spread of diseases among our members within the detention center, prompting serious concerns about their well-being.

Hospital demands money for treatment of detained child

In a recent testimony, one of our detained members reports instances of severe illness, including cases of influenza, diarrhea, and vomiting within the detention center which seem to be particularly prevalent among mothers and their children.

Of particular concern is the case of Maryam, the daughter of Lamya who is one of our detained members from Azerbaijan. Maryam's health deteriorated as she exhibited symptoms of influenza, anemia, diarrhea, and severe vomiting, necessitating her hospitalization. According to the testimony, up to the time we received the testimony, Maryam had not returned from the hospital and no information had been shared about her condition, treatment plan, and prognosis. On top of that, the hospital demanded a sum of money in exchange for her treatment.

In addition, a one-year-old daughter of one of our detained members was admitted to the hospital recently. The young child was diagnosed with severe influenza. It is important to note that according to the testimony, the rampant spread of influenza, diarrhea, and severe vomiting is prevalent among everyone within the camp, including all detained women present, and not just our detained members of the faith. 

We call for urgent measures to be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of our members, especially the children and the vulnerable, and to grant them the basic right of proper medical care and treatment.

في شهادة حديثة تلقيناها، أبلغت إحدى عضواتنا المحتجزات عن حالات مرض شديد، بما في ذلك حالات الأنفلونزا والإسهال والقيء داخل مركز الاحتجاز والتي يبدو أنها منتشرة بشكل خاص بين الأمهات وأطفالهن

ومما يثير القلق بشكل خاص حالة مريم، ابنة لمياء، وهي أحد أعضائنا المحتجزين من أذربيجان. تدهورت صحة مريم حيث ظهرت عليها أعراض الأنفلونزا وفقر الدم والإسهال والقيء الشديد، مما استدعى دخولها المستشفى. وفقًا للشهادة، حتى الوقت الذي تلقينا فيه الشهادة، لم تعد مريم من المستشفى ولم يتم إعطاء أي معلومات حول حالتها وخطة العلاج والتشخيص. علاوة على ذلك، طلبت المستشفى مبلغًا ماليًا مقابل علاجها

بالإضافة إلى ذلك، تم إدخال ابنة عمرها عام واحد لأحد أعضائنا المحتجزين إلى المستشفى مؤخرًا، حيث تم تشخيص الطفلة بالأنفلونزا الحادة، ومن المهم الإشارة إلى أنه وفقًا للشهادة، تتفشى الأنفلونزا والإسهال والقيء الشديد بين كل المقيمين داخل المخيم، بما في ذلك جميع النساء المحتجزات الموجودات، وليس فقط أعضاءنا المعتقلين
