Hold Cebu Pacific Air Accountable for the Systematic Flight Overbooking & Cancellations

Hold Cebu Pacific Air Accountable for the Systematic Flight Overbooking & Cancellations
The Issue
To the Senators of the Philippines,
We, the undersigned, are calling for your attention and intervention in the systemic and deliberate overbooking and flight cancellation practices of Cebu Pacific Air. We urge you to conduct a Senate inquiry into this matter. This practice of systematic overbooking and cancellations has resulted in undue stress, unnecessary expenses, and, at times, personal and professional consequences for countless Filipino travelers.
Cebu Pacific Air's business model often involves the sale of promo fare rates, which, while appealing in terms of affordability, are frequently associated with overselling the number of available seats. When the number of booked passengers exceeds capacity, the airline then cancels flights and forces passengers to rebook at significantly higher fares. This practice is not only ethically questionable but also immensely distressing for passengers.
The lack of direct contact methods like email addresses for customer assistance further aggravates this issue. Upon flight cancellation, passengers are left to navigate their options through an impersonal, automated process without the chance to discuss their needs or voice their complaints with a human representative
In the account of one passenger who experienced this issue firsthand. Their round-trip flight to Iloilo City was initially cancelled, requiring them to rebook at an inconvenient time. Then, the night before the scheduled return flight, they were informed that they were bumped off due to overbooking. The next available flight was two days later, causing them to consider 2 options, an extension of the stay which incurs additional hotel expenses, and a missed work commitment or booked a more expensive flight on a different airline.

Cebu Pacific Air's practice of overbooking flights has become a habitual offense, and the number of similarly affected passengers continues to rise.
This is not an occasional error but a systemic pattern that must be addressed to protect the rights and welfare of travelers. We, the undersigned, ask for your help in ending this disconcerting practice.
We call on you to:
- Conduct an inquiry into the overbooking and flight cancellation practices of Cebu Pacific Air.
- Draft and enact legislation that will regulate airline overbooking practices, ensuring that passengers' rights are protected.
- Implement stricter penalties for airlines that consistently violate these regulations.
- Demand airlines to provide more direct and efficient customer service channels.
We look forward to your swift action to ensure that airline passengers are treated fairly and with the respect they deserve. Thank you for your attention to this issue.
