The Issue

As a World Rabies Day Awardee in the Animal Welfare category, I am deeply disturbed and aggrieved by the mass killings of stray dogs taking place in Morocco in the midst of hosting the FIFA World Cup. This brutal act of 'cleaning up' the streets is both scientifically unproven and ethically deplorable. Rabies control should be reliant on humane methods such as sterilization, vaccination, and well-structured programs, not on brutal cullings.

According to the World Health Organization, mass dog culling has proven to be ineffective in controlling rabies and can even worsen the situation. Achieving rabies control is contingent upon improving animal welfare, promoting dog vaccination, instigating sterilization programs, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership.

We implore the Moroccan government to immediately cease these inhumane killings and implement effective, ethical solutions. As a community of impassioned animal welfare advocates striving for respect and dignity for all animals, we strongly condemn such acts. Stand with us to raise your voice against these cruel acts and demand immediate and effective action. Please sign this petition. #StopDogKillingsMorocco.
