The issue

Thousands of flood victims are still homeless after the devastating Feb 28th floods, with a third La Niña declared we desperately need to get families into housing.

Currently the majority of Lismore are sleeping in tents, cars, caravans and in their hollowed out houses all in the flood zone. With Hepburn Park being the only current suitable space that’s ready for a pod village (flat land, sewerage/power/water available, easy access to stores etc) there’s no reason for council to keep turning it down.

We understand this is one of MANY spaces enjoyed by the community but safe housing is a priority especially when these community members already have so many places to choose from for their weekend activities (30+ ovals and parks). Hepburn Park would also be a suitable place to evacuate the caravans few flood victims have been given when the next inevitable flood happens in the next few months.

With so many flood refugees busy and desperately trying to secure housing they haven’t been able to make their presence known at council meetings in the same way that the people of Goonellabah have. The NRRC have pods stacked up ready to go with nowhere to put them with Council repeatedly turning them down. Please sign this petition so I can present it to the NRRC and to the council.
