Urgent!! Stop Egypt's new law ordering almost all dogs to be slaughtered in 30 days!!
The Issue
Urgent! Urgent! Urgent!
All hands on deck! The Egyptian government has just passed a law banning all but 10 breeds of dogs. Owners of all other breeds are required to surrender their beloved pets in less than 30 days times, or they face time in an Egyptian prison. This is an outrageous law and amounts to wholesale slaughter of almost all dogs in Egypt. News reports abound of Egypt being an exporter of dogs for the dog meat trade. This cannot be allowed to happen! Dogs are not food animals, they are man's best friend. All this started because of one incident where a pit bull attacked and killed a man, and this - the wholesale slaughter of millions of innocent pups - is their government's response.
Egypt is an amazing country. I love it so much I have visited five times now. My first trip there I was 12 years old on a backpacking trip with an adult relative and even at that age felt perfectly safe. I have always warmly recommended travel to Egypt to people around the world, taken many friends with me on trips throughout the country, and as an Israeli-American Jew, have loudly defended it against all those who say it is too dangerous to visit or other nonsense disparaging the country. But this action by the Egyptian government is a step too far! If this goes through and happens, I will never forgive their government and will never step foot in the country again, a full boycott, and I call on everyone who loves dogs to pledge the same. Egypt is dependent on its tourists for foreign currency and the Egyptian government is particularly sensitive to its image as a safe, pleasant travel destination. Hence this petition and ultimatum. Stop the law from going into effect, let citizens have their pets live in peace, or face the global fury that will result in a major hit to the Egyptian economy from tourists joining me in boycotting all travel to Egypt in protest against this vicious law and crime against animals and their owners.
My Boxer Wilbur - the sweetest dog who wouldn't hurt a fly yet one of the breeds scheduled for elimination - and I call on you to sign this petition today and save Wilbur's cousins in Egypt, and all the other dogs for whom a grim fate awaits. Time is running out for them, Wilbur and I beg you to act today and share this petition as widely as possible. Thank you!
