Urgent Road Safety Study Needed for Montgomery Ave, PA

Urgent Road Safety Study Needed for Montgomery Ave, PA
The Issue
We, the concerned residents of Lower Merion Township, urgently request the Board of Commissioners to conduct a comprehensive road safety study on Montgomery Ave from Spring Mill Road to City Ave. This stretch of road has become increasingly hazardous due to unsafe and illegal high-speed traffic, frequent failure to yield at traffic lights, and dangerous lane changes and weaving.
Montgomery Ave serves as a vital transportation route for both local residents and commuters. However, the current state of this road poses a significant threat to public safety. Numerous incidents of reckless driving have been observed on a daily basis, endangering the lives of pedestrians and motorists alike.
To support our petition's urgency, we present several alarming facts:
1. High-Speed Traffic: The excessive speed beyond posted speed limits at which vehicles traverse Montgomery Ave is a pressing concern. Speed cameras are a requested consideration at various intersections throughout Montgomery Ave.
2. Failure to Yield at Traffic Lights: Many drivers consistently disregard traffic signals along Montgomery Ave, leading to an increased risk of accidents at intersections involving vehicles and pedestrians alike. Red light cameras are a requested consideration at various intersections throughout Montgomery Ave. Crosswalk activation without traffic interference is a requested consideration at various busy intersections throughout Montgomery Ave.
3. Unsafe Lane Changes and Weaving: Reckless lane changes without proper signaling or regard for other vehicles have become commonplace on Montgomery Ave. These dangerous maneuvers not only disrupt traffic flow but also contribute heavily to potential accidents. Extended turn-only arrow lights are a requested consideration at various busy intersections throughout Montgomery Ave.
The need for immediate action is evident as these issues continue unabatedly despite efforts made by local authorities thus far. We acknowledge that the Board of Commissioners has attempted to make changes to various parts of Montgomery Ave to address roadway safety but roadway conditions remain hazardous. Therefore, we implore the Board of Commissioners to approve a thorough road safety study encompassing all aspects mentioned above and more.
This study should aim to identify specific problem areas along Montgomery Ave that require immediate attention such as inadequate and poorly designed intersections that contribute to the prevailing unsafe conditions. Additionally, the study should propose effective solutions and recommendations to mitigate the identified risks.
By signing this petition, we express our collective concern for the safety of all road users on Montgomery Ave. We urge the township to prioritize this issue and allocate resources towards conducting a comprehensive road safety study promptly.
Together, let us work towards making Montgomery Ave a safer and more secure route for everyone in our community.
