The disabled community demand an Urgent Public inquiry to look at direct breaches of the Equality Duty/Equality Act 2010 and the direct and indirect discrimination being displayed by the Conservative MPs and our Prime Minister. Inciting hate against a protected characteristic is against the Equality Duty and the LAW of this country.

In order to identify cases involving disability hate crime, we have agreed with the police a shared definition. This definition is wider than the legal definition of a hate crime within the SA 2020 to ensure we capture all relevant cases:

“Any incident/crime which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person’s disability or perceived disability.”

 The deplorable and dehumanising speeches made by Conservative MPs and The Prime Minister which are full of contradictions, inaccuracies and outright lies.

This has a direct impact on Disabled constituents, it is inciting hate against a protected characteristic, increasing hate crimes based on prejudice. 

Many disabled people are terrified by the speeches being made by MPs, so much so they have attempted suicide. Just the MPs talking about this has caused this level of mental health damage, imagine if they followed through with any of these changes. 

The government MUST be held accountable for their breaches of their own Equality Duty and the Law in the UK or this shows the nation that the govenrment can do as they please without consequences, and gives permission to the general public to do the same.

The inquiry needs to address the breaches of the equality duty/equality act 2010 and the UK Law immediately, to take action to prevent future breaches going forward and prevent any more damage to the disabled community.
