Dear Members of Parliament from Vancouver Island,
We, the undersigned constituents of Vancouver Island, call upon our elected Members of Parliament and Members of the British Columbia Legislative Assembly to take immediate and decisive action in response to the ongoing massacre and grave human rights violations committed by the Islamic regime against the people of Iran.
Since late December 2025, the Islamic regime has carried out widespread and systematic violence against peaceful protesters including men, women, youth, and children, resulting in an estimated death toll exceeding twelve thousand. These atrocities have been accompanied by mass arrests, enforced disappearances, and a nationwide communications blackout, including the suspension of internet, mobile networks, and electricity since January 8, 2026. These actions constitute clear violations of international human rights law and crimes against humanity.
Many Canadians, including members of the Iranian diaspora, are living in fear for the lives of their loved ones. The Iranian people are courageously and peacefully demanding freedom, dignity, and democratic governance, often with nothing but their bare hands. Their bravery demands a meaningful and tangible international response.
Canada has long held a principled stance on human rights and was a leading force in establishing the "Responsibility to Protect" principle in the early 2000s. When a state fails to protect its own population, that responsibility falls to the international community. The Islamic regime has demonstrably failed in this duty. This critical moment requires renewed Canadian leadership.
The Iranian people have repeatedly demonstrated their desire for a future free from tyranny and grounded in liberal rights and freedoms. Today, they are calling for the end of this oppressive regime while paying the ultimate price in the streets of Iran.
Many Iranians inside and outside the country are calling on Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi as a unifying transitional leader capable of guiding Iran toward a secular, democratic, and accountable system following the collapse of the current regime. Recognizing him as a transitional leader of the opposition would strengthen unity and help ensure a peaceful and orderly transition.
We therefore urge the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia to act by:
- Sanctioning companies supplying surveillance technology, weapons, or riot control equipment to the regime
- Coordinating joint condemnations through the UN, EU, G7, G20, and other international groupings
- Initiating international investigations and accountability mechanisms
- Expanding targeted sanctions against individuals and entities responsible for repression
- Freezing assets and banning travel for regime officials, including deportation where applicable
- Pushing for Islamic regime’s removal from international bodies
- Urging other countries to oust Islamic regime diplomats and downgrade diplomatic relations
- Engaging with diaspora communities to ensure their concerns are heard and reflected in further decisions
- Recognizing and supporting Prince Reza Pahlavi as the transitional leader
- Supporting international humanitarian intervention efforts under the "Responsibility to Protect" principle
As your constituents, we call on you to uphold the values Canada stands for and to act decisively in defense of a people fighting for their lives snd most fundamental rights.
We urge immediate action. Canada cannot remain silent.
