Keep West Kingsdown Medical Centre Open!

Dr T Reichhelm and Partners have given formal notice to NHS England to terminate their contract (due to expire on 31st March 2016). Planned appointments are likely to cease on 26th February 2016.

This is the ONLY GP practice in the village of West Kingsdown and has over 4,000 registered patients.

The nearest alternative surgeries are already heavily, if not over committed. Being forced to absorb patients from West Kingsdown could only have a detrimental effect on the quality and level of service provided to their existing patients.

West Kingsdown has:

  • Two Care/Nursing Homes.
  • Four mobile home parks in the village and another in the adjacent Knatts Valley.
  • A West Kent Housing Association block of sheltered accommodation flats for the elderly with additional adjacent accommodation for older people.
  • West Kent Housing Association properties for tenants and leaseholders.
  • A number of traveller sites.
  • An above average number of single story dwellings.

Demographic data will likely show that we have an above average number of elderly residents inevitably placing an extra burden on a GP practice. These patients are often less mobile and may not be able to drive themselves to appointments.

There is only a very limited bus service in the village.

We believe there is an overwhelming case for the NHS to continue to provide a GP Surgery at the West Kingsdown Medical Centre, our purpose built facility.

Patients and their families are worrying themselves sick having received no official information since a letter dated 3 December 2015. We know the Primary Care Senior Management Team must communicate their decision within 7 days but have no date for the meeting.
