Petition: Urgent Investment in Mental Health, Emergency Housing & Health Facilities for Naracoorte, SA
To: The South Australian Government, Limestone Coast Local Health Network, and Naracoorte Lucindale Council
We, the undersigned members of the Naracoorte and wider Limestone Coast community, call for immediate and meaningful action to address the growing crisis in local health and social services.
📣
Our Community is in Crisis
Naracoorte and surrounding areas are facing an alarming shortfall in essential services, including:
Mental Health Support
Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs
Emergency Accommodation for Vulnerable Individuals and Families
Youth and Community Wellness Facilities
Upgraded Hospital and Medical Infrastructure
Residents are being left behind — without safe places to heal, recover, or even survive. Vulnerable people, including our youth, elderly, neurodivergent, and trauma-impacted residents, are being forced to travel hours away or fall through the cracks entirely.
🚨 The Current Situation is Unacceptable
Waitlists are long — or non-existent.
Transport barriers prevent access to distant services.
Emergency beds are unavailable for those fleeing domestic violence or mental health crises.
Community centers are outdated or underfunded, failing to meet the needs of today’s youth and families.
💡 Our Community Deserves:
✅ A dedicated mental health and trauma recovery center, culturally sensitive and inclusive.
✅ A drug and alcohol detox and rehabilitation facility in or near Naracoorte.
✅ Safe emergency accommodation with wraparound support for DV survivors, youth, and at-risk families.
✅ Modernised hospital and emergency care services equipped for mental health crises.
✅ A multi-use community wellbeing hub for education, therapy, recreation, and social connection.
🫱 We’re Not Asking for Luxury — We’re Demanding Equity.
As a rural region, our needs are too often overlooked. But our community matters. The lives, futures, and safety of our people matter.
We call on state and local government, regional health networks, and potential funding bodies to urgently:
Conduct a formal needs assessment
Allocate funding for facility upgrades and new developments
Partner with local leaders, Indigenous communities, and health advocates
Create real pathways for healing and recovery — here at home
