Urgent Humanitarian Protection for Iranians at Risk of Deportation from Georgia
The Issue
Our Lives Are at Risk. We Need Urgent International Protection.
We are Iranian nationals who have lived in Georgia for many years, hoping to find safety and build a peaceful life away from the dangers we fear in our home country.
Today, we face a frightening and uncertain future. Our asylum applications have been rejected, and our passports have limited remaining validity or documentation problems. The Iranian Embassy in Georgia refused to receive us, and our passports have not been renewed. This has left us facing serious uncertainty about our legal status and our future.
We have been labeled as “traitors to our homeland” because of our circumstances and perceived political views. We fear that this label could expose us to serious consequences if we are forced to return to Iran, including persecution, imprisonment, and potentially the death penalty.
For us, this is not simply an immigration issue. It is a matter of life and death.
After spending years in Georgia, we now face the possibility of losing our safety and being sent back to a country where we fear for our lives. We have also been unable to resolve our passport situation through the Iranian Embassy. We urgently need our individual circumstances and the risks we face to be carefully and fairly assessed before any decision that could result in our return.
We respectfully call on the United Nations, UNHCR, international human rights organizations, democratic governments, and relevant diplomatic missions to take urgent humanitarian action.
We ask the international community to:
- Urgently review the cases of Iranian nationals in Georgia who face a credible risk of persecution, imprisonment, torture, or the death penalty if returned to Iran.
- Advocate for protection against forced return until individual protection claims and serious risks have been properly assessed.
- Help connect at-risk individuals and families with emergency legal assistance and international protection mechanisms.
- Encourage relevant authorities to consider safe and lawful alternatives for people who cannot safely return to Iran.
- Give urgent attention to individuals whose rejected asylum applications and unresolved passport situations leave them facing a serious protection crisis.
We are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for a fair opportunity to live in safety and for our lives to be protected in accordance with international human rights and refugee protection principles.
We have spent years trying to find safety and stability. We do not want to be forced to return to a place where we fear persecution and possible death because of how we are perceived or labeled.
We ask the international community to hear our voices before it is too late.
Please sign and share this petition to help bring urgent international attention to our situation and support a safe and humane solution for Iranian individuals and families at risk in Georgia.
