ISSUE
The people of Cuba have been suffering for decades from a dearth of basic living conditions such as water, food, sanitation and health care. This crisis has become catastrophic due to the lack of another basic necessity: electricity.

BACKGROUND
The dictatorship regime in Cuba for 65 years has repeatedly violated the following UN resolutions:

• Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948)
• Resolution 217 A (III)
• Resolution 1503 (XLVIII)
• Resolution 53/144
• Resolution 68/181
• Resolution 66/170
• Resolution 2474 (2019)

Such violations have led to starvation, destitution, lack of basic medical care, human rights abuses, and most recently, no electricity. The lack of electricity has exacerbated the lack of basic human necessities such as water and food. With hospitals closing or unable to power life-saving medical equipment, the basic human right of medical care, long on the edge of nonexistence, has collapsed.

SOLUTION
While the Cuban dictatorship blames everyone else for their failures that created these human rights abuses, many countries, NGOs and ordinary people around the world are willing and able to provide immediate assistance. However no one will given the six-decades old record of the regime redirecting any money and/or aid away from the people but towards the enrichment of the dictators.

CALL TO ACTION: PETITION
Therefore this petition calls on the United Nations and the European Union to explicitly sanction the Cuban dictatorship and their benefactors so that humanitarian aid be delivered directly to the common people of Cuba.
