URGENT: Help Adelaide Husband Lazo Kiza Secure Permanent Residency
The issue
To the Honourable Minister for Immigration, Tony Burke,
Lazo Kiza is a dedicated husband and essential member of his community. Married to an Australian citizen, he has called Australia home for the past 7 years and has built a life around caring for his wife, who depends heavily on him for emotional and practical support, and his involvement with his local Serbian Orthodox Church.
Hundreds of people in his community support him, and he is known as a compassionate, selfless man. He has dedicated his time and energy to his church, loved ones, and broader community. Lazo has worked tirelessly, paid taxes, and endured years of uncertainty while trying to secure his future here.
Lazo’s immigration difficulty began after his Partner (Subclass 100) visa was refused in May 2022 following missed requests for further information. Seeking professional assistance, Lazo and his wife engaged a registered migration agent and trusted him to manage Lazo’s immigration matter properly. However, the agent subsequently lodged a wrong visa application. This inappropriate application was refused and placed Lazo and his wife in an increasingly difficult immigration position through circumstances they say were beyond their control.
Lazo later sought Ministerial Intervention under section 351 of the Migration Act 1958, asking that his exceptional circumstances – particularly his role as the primary carer for his Australian citizen wife, who has significant health and support needs be considered.
His spouse has been issued a CVAC assessment with an impairment rating of 30.
Despite these circumstances, on 18 August 2026, the Department of Home Affairs advised that his request did not meet the criteria for referral and finalised the matter without referring it to the Minister.
Lazo and his wife are now asking for compassion and support so their genuine marriage and life together in Australia are not torn apart by circumstances and professional errors outside their control. Time is now critical. Lazo’s Bridging Visa expires on 3 September 2026, and he is required to depart Australia by that date.
Lazo deserves consideration by the Minister. This decision will affect a real family and a community. Lazo upholds every Australian value – fairness, compassion, and mateship.
We cannot let a man who has contributed so much to this country be deported. We urge the Minister for Immigration to personally consider Lazo’s application for permanent residency. His residency not only supports individual wellbeing but enhances community resilience and solidarity.
Please stand with us to help ensure that Lazo is given the chance to remain in Australia. Help us keep families together and communities strong. Please sign and share this petition. Every signature matters, and time is running out.
