Greetings Petition Signer ~

Everywhere you look these days, there's MAHA as in, of course, Make America Healthy Again. Back in March the Fukushima Fallout Awareness Network (FFAN Coalition) wrote to Health and Human Services Secretary and MAHA Commissioner Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to relay our concerns of ionizing radiation in food, and not just from Fukushima. Each and every operating nuclear power plant vents and dumps a toxic mix of ionizing radiation into the air and water which then migrate to food. This has been known to have serious health implications (as stated by Steven Starr above).

The letter was sent shortly after Donald Trump's Executive Order to establish the MAHA Commission. It was a unique opportunity to bring attention to the issue we've been working on steadily since the Change petition you signed was written in 2011. We asked RFK Jr. to direct FDA to finally act on FFAN's FDA petition to significantly lower the current allowable levels of cesium 134 and 137 ionizing radiation in food. When that letter went unanswered, we sent another in May which was signed in solidarity by several prominent NGO's including Organic Consumers Association and also by Dr. Helen Caldicott.

Then we learned that the MAHA Commission report, Make Our Children Healthy Again: Assessment failed to address ionizing radiation, per our requests in the letters. Watchdogs were also disappointed to see that the Assessment fell far short of addressing GMO's, and organic food was barely mentioned at all. The Commission's final Strategy report is due out next month as directed by the EO earlier this year.

The May letter, along with tens of thousands of petition signatures and FDA comments, were hand-delivered on Capitol Hill prior to the release of the MAHA Assessment. It was very meaningful that Chris Turner personally made the deliveries to MAHA Caucus members. Chris is the son of the late Jim Turner, former president of FFAN Coalition member Citizens for Health and one of the original Nader Raiders.  Jim authored the groundbreaking book, "The Chemical Feast".  He also co-wrote and filed the Citizen Petition to FDA 12 years ago. To be sure our concerns were known, FFAN issued a second press release. (The May press release and letter are in the FFAN signature line link below.)

Then came the news of Trump's four misguided executive orders to expand and deregulate the nuclear industry. Clearly there has never been more of a need to educate those in power about the nuclear industry's impact on food and health. FFAN members are calling and meeting with representatives' staff, and we need your help.

WE MUST ACT NOW because, after all, what is more patriotic than taking action to protect our communities? Find your representatives HERE, give them a call on Monday and then follow up via email with a copy of the MoveOn petition HERE. There is clear language on the link to reference during your call. 

FDA now acknowledges nuclear radiation as chemical contaminants. It appears that our demands for transparency have not gone unrecognized. The agency has included cesium134 and 137 in its new Chemical Contaminants Transparency Tool.  Now that they're listed, they need to be lowered per our FDA Citizen Petition. Consumers should be able to eat a wide variety of foods to get more nutrients, not to avoid too many contaminants (which seems to be FDA's current mindset).
