It's been seven years to the day since the horrific Fukushima Daiichi nuclear crisis began. Can you remember where you were when you first heard the news? There is still no end in sight to the largest nuclear power disaster to date, however public response to Fukushima has been growing. Those of us following the issue closely wish there were better news to share, but Fukushima Daiichi continues to release lethal radiation into the Pacific, bags of waste spread by the thousands in above ground "storage" lots, and the incineration of radioactive and toxic materials continues in Japan. People have asked if it's safe to eat Pacific ocean fish here in the U.S. It depends on who you ask, and it stands to reason that it's still quite risky. There is no safe dose of internal manmade radiation. Even small amounts can cause cancer and other disease, so better safe than sorry as they say. Meanwhile, Fukushima Fallout Awareness Network's Citizen Petition to the FDA to monitor man made radiation in food and supplements is still collecting comments at www.FFAN.us. Included here are a sampling of links to peruse and share. It's up to us to counter the considerable misinformation about Fukushima Daiichi and the so called "safety" of nuclear power.
