My name is Zeshan Khawaja, I'm an activist, humanitarian and former political campaigns manager for the Mayor of London. I'm starting this petition based on my conversations over the past few days with friends and colleagues from the earthquake affected regions of Turkey and neighbouring Syria. 

Everyone that I have spoken to is very concerned with the growing number of casualties and one thing that has stood out as clear as day from all my communications with them, is that their is an IMMENSE SHORTAGE OF LIFE SAVING MEDICATIONS!

Doctors, volunteers and aid workers cannot possibly continue to provide medical assistance without the necessary life-saving medicines needed to help the earthquake victims. It is a fact that survival rates sharply decrease without the proper medical equipment and supplies needed to assist victims with life threatening injuries resulting in unnecessary loss of life.

There is no shortage of gestures of kindness and humanity as we've witnessed by the great number of volunteers and aid found on the ground sent by so many countries including the UK - But a lot more needs to be done!

I've heard that doctors and volunteers are working with all their hearts and energy to save lives, but the sheer number of casualties being recovered on a daily basis calls for large number of medical operating equipment and a constant demand for medical supplies - All of this adds further pressure on an already at full capacity hospitals.

Now is the time to prioritise human life, not corporate profits. Now is the time for a collective effort by uniting under the umbrella of humanity. I urge my local Member of Parliament, Dr. Rosena Allin-Khan, whom herself is a former Doctor and our Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan to push the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak to act without hesitation and prejudice and engage with the Department of Health & Social Care to communicate with pharmaceutical companies and other relevant bodies to donate life savings medicines and equipment as soon as possible!

If these shortcomings are not urgently addressed by Rishi Sunak and he refuses to commit to further support to Turkey & Syria promptly, it will lead to further loss of life. This can easily be avoided by taking firm action now and showing a continued commitment to saving precious lives.
